SIGEP, January 20–24

From January 20 to 24, Borin® will take part in the 45th edition of SIGEP in Rimini, organised by IEG, Italian Exhibition Group. As every year, it confirms itself as a must-attend event to discover the latest developments, innovations and trends in sweet foodservice, alongside the coffee and bakery supply chains, covering raw materials and ingredients, machinery and equipment, furnishings, packaging and services.

Demonstrations and competitions

Gelato

Gelato World Cup: the 10th edition of the competition that will crown the 2024 World Champion Gelato Team.
Sigep Gelato d’Oro: the Italian selection aimed at identifying the gelato maker and pastry chef who will compete in the second edition of the Gelato Europe Cup, scheduled for SIGEP 2025.
Gelato on canvas: one of the main highlights of SIGEP 2024, where each artist can showcase their work by representing artisan gelato in any form, with full freedom in painting technique and style.


Pastry

Juniors Pastry World Cup: a unique team competition dedicated to young talents under 23, offering a highly formative experience. The competition theme will be: “Myths and Legends”.
Italian Junior Pastry Championship: an annual competition aimed at selecting the Italian champion of pastry and chocolate for young talents under 23 years of age.

The competition theme will be: “A sustainable future”.

Italian Senior Pastry Championship: an annual competition aimed at selecting the Italian champion of pastry and chocolate, open to professional pastry chefs over 24 years of age. The competition theme will be: “Journey to the East”.


Coffee

At SIGEP 2024, in the prestigious Coffee Arena, the Italian finals of the various coffee competitions will take place, selecting the winners who will represent Italy internationally.

Professionals will compete for the national title across six disciplines, judged by a panel of national and international judges.

Bakery

Young Ideas: held in the Bakery Arena, this competition offers an opportunity for young talents from Italian hospitality schools and vocational training institutions.

In the Choco Arena at SIGEP, the Italian final of the Panettone World Cup will take place, where master pastry chefs from all over Italy will compete for the honour of taking part in the prestigious world final, scheduled to be held in Milan from 8 to 10 November 2024. 

From a field of 30 pastry chefs, only the top 5 will be selected to go on and represent Italy.

The history of SIGEP

SIGEP was founded in 1979. Its first edition was held in Rimini’s old exhibition centre and was officially inaugurated on 17 January 1980. The initiative came from the Fair Authority, on the suggestion of trade associations representing artisans, which were calling for an event to support their businesses.

From the outset, it took on the name Salone della Gelateria e della Pasticceria Artigianali and, over five consecutive days, hosted 180 of the leading Italian companies in the confectionery sector across an area of 9,500 square metres, attracting around 30,000 industry professionals.

Already in that first edition, several master pastry chefs took part in a competition in which they created monumental desserts inspired by some of Italy’s greatest architectural works, while 138 gelato makers competed to select the new flavours for summer 1980, with a Bologna-based operator standing out with an ice cream based on flavoured custard.

In January 2002, SIGEP moved to the new Rimini exhibition centre, occupying 11 halls with a total surface area of 60,000 square metres.

It has continued to grow steadily ever since, thanks in part to competitions that still attract professionals and masters from all over the world, while also inspiring young people and students entering the sector who aspire to become tomorrow’s top talents.
