From 24 to 27 October, Borin® took part in the 53rd edition of Cibus Tec in Parma, organised by Koeln Parma Exhibitions. The joint venture established in 2015 between Fiere di Parma S.p.A. and Koelnmesse GmbH stands out as the historic trade fair that, since 1939, has showcased innovation and new trends every three years across 400,000 square metres dedicated to food industries from around the world.
The event focused on the latest solutions for every stage of the production process, from processing to packaging, through to supporting services such as automated logistics and printing. Food safety was, naturally, also a central topic, together with everything connected to it, including hygiene, energy and the environment.
More than 1,200 exhibitors from 30 countries were present, alongside around 40,000 professional visitors from the food industry. Thanks to major investments and collaboration with the ICE Agency, more than 3,000 VIP Top Buyers from food and beverage companies in over 60 countries also attended. There was a particularly strong presence of Top Buyers from the Middle East and South-East Asia.
Start-up Area
This year again, Cibus Tec confirmed its leadership in innovation across the food supply chain by hosting the largest area dedicated to leading food tech and AI-based solutions (artificial intelligence), featuring more than 100 start-ups selected globally, in collaboration with Le Village by Crédit Agricole, ICE Agency and other key international partners.
Machinery Observatory
As a new feature this year, the first Machinery Observatory for the Food & Beverage sector was introduced - developed with the support of Nomisma - with a specific focus on the Italian food machinery industry. Its objective is to provide insights into supply chain performance, competitive challenges and international market dynamics.
In particular, the analysis focused on the positioning of Italian machinery in international markets, in light of the sector’s strong export orientation, which recorded growth of around 20% in the first quarter of 2023 compared to 2022.
Packaging programme
To enrich its offering, Cibus Tec also introduced a dedicated packaging programme, “NextGen. The future perspective of food pack”, structured across three levels.
The first, an exhibition area, featured hundreds of leading brands presenting key packaging innovations through process automation technologies. The second, experiential, showcased active production lines, placing visitors at the centre of food processing operations. The third focused on emerging trends across multiple areas, including digitalisation, sustainability, innovation, ecological transition, alternative packaging and food safety, through an extensive conference programme.
Food safety
Cibus Tec 2023 also confirmed its role as a reference point in food safety. In addition to hosting leading Italian and international suppliers of laboratory equipment and analytical solutions, it organised together with LabWorld.it, the LabWorld Arena (a dedicated area for conferences and meetings on food safety) hosting one of Italy’s leading conferences on challenges and solutions to tackle food contamination.
Training
In addition, major Italian and international organisations selected Cibus Tec as a platform for training, discussion and analysis of the key challenges facing the food supply chain. Among them, the National Order of Food Technologists, together with the regional bodies of Emilia-Romagna, Tuscany, Marche and Umbria, hosted three training events providing continuing professional development credits for registered members.
